Memories of a Forest

A solo exhibition and outdoor art gallery (2025).

On December 13, 2025, I conceived, self-organized, and facilitated a solo outdoor gallery and walking exhibition entitled Memories of a Forest, which centered more-than-human perspectives and collective memory through paintings and poetry. The gallery took place in Pine Quarry Park in my hometown of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and consisted of nine site-specific installations, each linked to a particular place within the forest. Incorporating my own knowledge of ecological processes with the wisdom of the living world, the stories explored themes of interdependence, community, resilience, and collective identity.

As someone who grew up playing under this forest’s canopy and seen her change over the years, creating this project allowed me to transform that intimacy into a shared experience, and taught me about the creative ways in which we can use art for place-based knowledge communication and embodied connection.

On Becoming a Stream where did I start? was it in the summer rain? or the dew drop drip gliding down a grassblade vein where water collided to give me motion in a thousand moments At once At once where am I now? curving the slate rock banks under this bridge or the cascades of miles away when i become a river when I become an ocean all the places I can be At once At once what defines me? am I still me when I branch apart or join the course of another’s flow? all that falls into my waters all that swims through me dissolving churning At once At once I flow with no thought to direction or purpose but the joy of moving of meeting of changing of knowing a part of us flows through me always
